The primary purpose of the Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition (LBC) is to make breastfeeding the norm for all babies in Louisiana. The Coalition will protect, promote and support breastfeeding through a variety of means including:

• improved public policy
• professional education
• use of the media
• information sharing among lactation consultants
• development of regional/local coalitions

The LBC operates under the umbrella of the Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition and its work is guided by a twelve-member steering committee. All persons with an interest in supporting breast-feeding initiatives in Louisiana and who subscribe to the conflict of in-terest policy adopted from the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes are welcome to become members.
